New Education Programme for WWI: New Zealand and the Great War

New education programme available for a limited time in conjunction with our new exhibition “WWI: New Zealand and the Great War“.

Although we already have a comprehensive education programme for Pakanga Tuatahi o te Ao – WWI, our latest temporary exhibition offers a different perspective to expand your students’ knowledge about WWI and its direct impact for New Zealanders at war.

Students can put themselves in the shoes of an unnamed soldier and follow their journey from life at home, preparation for war, fighting, the return home, and the price paid; by both the soldiers and those who remained at home. The main themes our teachers cover:

  • The journey of a New Zealand soldier from before war, to back at home, with a focus on the cost of war.
  • Continuity and change: what can we see that has changed in 110 years and what has remained constant (for example, people’s attitude to going to war, the use of language through the audio-visual aspect of the exhibition etc.).
  • New Zealand’s direct contribution to WWI.

This programme is appropriate for Primary and Secondary aged students.
