Our 28 Māori Battalion programme is suitable for year levels 3-13.
Ake Ake Kia Kaha E! Forever Brave! is our permanent exhibition dedicated to the men and descendants of 28 Māori Battalion and commemorates their great courage and sacrifice. Te Rau Aroha stands proud and provides a tangible link for all their mokopuna.
Students examine the historical context in which this battalion carried the aspirations of Te Iwi Māori and their military achievements across the campaigns of World War II.
To support your learning in the classroom, for Secondary School teachers and educators we have a collection of Primary Source excerpts collected from our Kippenberger Military Archive from WWII NZ soldiers’ diaries. We recommend you start with A Brief History of the Māori Battalion before moving on to more specific topics.
