The National Army Museum’s event space, The Headquarters is a purpose renovated, historical building, Building 81 from Waiouru Military Camp. Built in 1941, the versatile space allows for a number of seating configurations accommodating groups theatre style up to 80 members.
Our onsite café offers delicious catering options and our event staff are available to organise specific details including equipment hire and extra touches. Please contact us to discuss your needs and ideas so we are able to curate an event to remember.
The National Army Museum is located on State Highway One in Waiouru. Waiouru’s central location is an easy drive for visitors staying in the Ruapehu region, Palmerston North and Taupo and a fantastic half way meeting point between Auckland and Wellington offices.
The Headquarters – Building 81
The Headquarters houses flexible meeting spaces which can accommodate up to 80 guests theatre style in the Meeting Room and 10 delegates boardroom style in the Boardroom. Building 81 also includes a break out area, fantastic for morning or afternoon tea or to provide a third private space. Each space has a wall mounted television screen which can be connected to a laptop.

- Microphone and PA system

The National Army Museum is also able to host group activities, group museum and behind the scene tours, conference dinners and cocktail parties.
Treat your delegates to exciting and informative break out activities. Keep the momentum of the conference up with either a M548 personnel carrier ride, a private tour of the museums vehicle collection not currently on public display, soak in the views from New Zealand’s highest golf course or head into camp* to be put through the paces on a Military high ropes or confidence course.
* Exercises based in the Waiouru Military Camp are subject to availability with the NZ Army.
The onsite Museum Café offers an extensive selection of menus from morning and afternoon teas to working lunches and conference dinners. We are more than happy to create a bespoke menu should you have a particular theme in mind.

Hosting your event with the National Army Museum guarantees a unique experience. Complete the theme of your conference with a gift from the Museum Gift Shop. From small table trinkets to ‘survival packs for your troops’ our events team are able to suggest ideas distinctive to your event participants.
The National Army Museum’s collection is particularly precious with irreplaceable exhibits. We are renowned for our rare military artefacts which we must protect at all times. The Museum reserves the right to assign security to any event where it sees fit. If deemed necessary, this will be at a cost of $30 per attendant per hour outside of general museum admission hours.
