“Le Quesnoy: Who Were These Young Soldiers?” by Auckland based artist Lindsey Kirk, features a series of works relating to the liberation of the French town, Le Quesnoy by New Zealand troops on 4 November 1918.
The artwork focuses on the civilian lives, hometowns, and occupations of 20 of those soldiers. In creating the artwork, Lindsey has created mixed-media works on canvas using acrylic paints, collage and printing techniques.
In April 2023, Lindsey displayed the exhibition in a local gallery in Le Quesnoy as a precursor to the opening of the New Zealand Liberation Museum – Te Arawhata (which opened 11 October 2023).
We are proud to say that the National Army Museum Te Mata Toa is the first to host Lindsey Kirk’s “Le Quesnoy: Who Were These Young Soldiers?” in New Zealand.
