National Army Museum, Waiouru, New Zealand : Military History & Army War Museum

40 years of the National Army Museum

Monday 15th October 2018, marks 40 years since the opening of the QEII Army Memorial Museum (today trading as the National Army Museum Te Mata Toa).

The museum was built thanks to the vision of Major General Ron Hassett CBE and Army Chief of General Staff at the time who was also a veteran of both World War II and Korea.

The building of the Sir Miles Warren designed fortress was a credit to the Army Engineers and voluntary labour who braved the extreme Waiouru winter conditions to complete the build in just 276 days! Our total 40 year story can be found here.
